Description

Killail Forest is a large commercial conifer forest located on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll, with a stunning panoramic view of Loch Fyne. The forest was planted in 1991 with high-yielding Sitka spruce, which accounts for 86% of the timber crop, and mixed conifer and Japanese larch. The property is situated on sloping terrain, west facing, and rises from the shores to 200 meters above sea level. The soils are mostly mineral and peaty podzols. The forest is managed for timber production and provides good stalking opportunities for Red & Roe deer. The property is subject to a Statutory Plant Health Notice for the harvesting of larch affected by Phytophthora ramorum, and a hydro scheme operates along the Killail burn. The sale includes the sporting rights, and the purchaser will be required to enter into a clawback agreement with the seller in respect of any future windfarm development. The property is designated with cup and ring marked rocks, cairns, ruins, and An Socach, a corn drying kiln area.
