Description
Dinmont Wood is a secluded and attractive mixed conifer and broadleaf wood located within walking distance of Brampton Station. The wood is part of the larger Rowbank Woods and features a central location but is surprisingly secluded. The wood's history as a plantation is evident, with Noble Fir trees of statuesque proportions and re-planted broadleaves that have escaped their protective tubes. The woodland floor is covered in a verdant carpet of bracken and fern, with mossy stumps providing feeding stools for squirrels. The wood is a haven for bird life, with tree creepers attracted to the large trunks of the conifers and small feeding flocks of birds flitting through the understorey. The wood is also home to red squirrels and other native rodents, and a current management plan is available for use. Access to the wood is along firm shared tracks, with a marked ridestop entrance leading to a turning circle and small area within the wood for timber stacking. The sporting rights are owned and included in the sale, and the wood lends itself to a variety of activities, including wildlife watching, conservation, and gentle management. The nearby market town of Brampton is well served by B+Bs and pubs, and the wider area is home to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Geltsdale RSPB reserve.
