Acheson Wood is an ancient woodland in East Suffolk, featuring a unique hornbeam coppice with great historical and conservation value. The woodland is characterized by a mix of mature oak and ash trees, with hornbeam, hazel, field maple, and elm making up the shrub layer. The floor is covered with a variety of wildflowers and plants, including spotted orchids, wood sorrel, and dog's mercury. Access is via a surfaced track and a soft track beyond, and the woodland has a strong sense of community among neighboring owners who work together to maintain it. The woodland has great potential for ecological management, with the possibility of establishing a coppice rotation, building a base camp and seating area, and creating a wildlife pond to enhance diversity and resilience.
