The site is allocated for development under policy CS10 of the Fareham Core Strategy, which permits high-quality development that delivers or facilitates the delivery of health, community, or residential institution uses. The NHS has declared that the phase 2 extension of the main hospital is no longer required, making the site surplus to foreseeable NHS requirements. The site is located near the A27 Bridge Road, approximately 1.6 miles from M27 Jct 9 and 7.3 miles from central Southampton, with Swanwick railway station nearby.
