Caluna Wood is a sheltered woodland in transition to a native species wood, located in Pengaer, near the village of Ffostrasol, with a gentle north-westerly aspect. The wood was felled and replanted about 20 years ago and has since been restocked with native broadleaves and conifers, with natural regeneration of other species. The wood has good all-weather access via a hard stone track and an unsurfaced ride, offering lovely views over the surrounding countryside. A management plan was commissioned in 2014 to identify options for returning the woodland to its natural state, and the new owner has the opportunity to further develop the conservation value of the wood. The wood is already alive with birdsong, and the vendor's forester suggests maintaining the grassy ride, restoring and extending a meandering path, and releasing promising broadleaves to steer the wood towards its natural state.
