Maltby Wood, a lowland mixed deciduous woodland, is an ancient woodland within the Maltby Commons and Woodlands LWS designation. The woodland features a mature oak and ash canopy, with an under canopy of young wych elm, ash, and wild cherry, and a third layer of abundant hazel coppice stools. The ground flora is rich in species, with a diverse mix of ancient woodland indicators, indicating calcareous conditions. The woodland is considered suitable for developers as Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) offset land or for other purposes, although redevelopment is unlikely.
