Maltby Wood is an ancient woodland with a mature oak and ash canopy, featuring an under canopy of young wych elm, ash, and wild cherry, as well as a third layer of hazel coppice stools and occasional hawthorn and cherry laurel. The ground flora is rich in species, including ancient woodland indicators, indicating calcareous conditions. The woodland is considered suitable for developers as Biodiversity Net Gain offset land or for other purposes, although redevelopment is unlikely.
