Dering Lodge Wood is a unique and historic ancient woodland, set within a Local Wildlife Site and part of the larger Dering Wood. The woodland is characterized by large areas of hornbeam coppice with oak standards, as well as birch, poplar, ash, holm oak, and hawthorn trees. The site is covered by a Woodland Tree Preservation Order and an Article 4, which allows for normal forest management with a Forestry Commission-approved plan. The woodland is home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, and features numerous clearings, natural water sources, and well-used tracks. The site also holds historical significance, having been a popular spot for the royal family in the past. The woodland is located in a desirable area between the villages of Smarden and Pluckley, with easy access to the M20 and London. Access to the woodland is currently on foot only, via the Pluckley Road or a public footpath to the north west. Viewings are welcome, but visitors are advised to take care and be prepared for the great outdoors.
