Land

This woodland, Maplestead Wood, is a 70-80 year old plantation on ancient woodland site located near Gosfield village in rural Essex. The mature canopy is comprised of oak, beech, and birch, with some cherry, hornbeam, sycamore, poplar, and lime trees scattered throughout. The woodland has a mix of open areas and denser sections, with a variety of flora including primrose, bracken, dog's mercury, and bramble.

The woodland is home to a range of wildlife, including roe, muntjac, and fallow deer, as well as owls, jay, blackbirds, and green woodpeckers. The woodland has been recently thinned to allow for future generations of trees to grow, and there is potential for the oak to be used for furniture production. The woodland is suitable for both family recreation and a keen woodland hobbyist, with opportunities for camping, bushcraft, and wildlife spotting.
