Description
Worthy Wood is a woodland area easily accessed from Okehampton, featuring a mosaic of habitats including broadleaved woodland, planted woodland, and wet woodland. The area has a mix of mature and newly planted trees, with towering oak, ash, beech, alder, and birch in the older northern part, and eucalyptus, willow, hazel, and birch in the recently planted southern part. Boardwalks allow access to the wet woodland with catkin-laden alder trees.
A clearing in the younger woodland is suitable for camping. The woodland is crisscrossed with historic wood banks, of which the most irregularly shaped are likely to be medieval in origin. There are also areas with natural springs, offering opportunities to create ponds and streams.
A parking area and a private parking area are within the woodland.
